Basics of Swiss Successions

In a few words

Discover the keys to understanding the Swiss inheritance system through a 3-module course lasting 60 minutes in all.

The first module introduces the essential terms you need to understand the inheritance system while touching on a few general concepts, such as the universality of heirs and the extent of their liability.

The second module addresses legal succession and voluntary succession as well as their liquidation. In the case of legal succession, we begin by explaining the principle of kinship and the allocation of legal shares. Next, we examine the principles of voluntary succession, focusing on the reserved portions and the possible provisions that a de cujus can make.

Finally, the last module focuses on the practical application of these concepts through three case studies. We analyse the potential disadvantages associated with each situation and look at possible preventive measures for avoiding any future conflicts between the heirs.
